A passion for ceramics, a homemade pottery wheel and countless hours spent at the wheel - that's how Tuia's story began.

Tuija Koponen started a ceramics course at the community college in 1995 and also did a lot of clay work at home, for example in the bathroom, at her own pottery wheel. All of this led to the founding of the Tuias company in 2009. The name of the company Tuias refers to Tuija Koponen's first name. The idea of ​​making beautiful ceramic dishes by hand has been a guiding idea for Tuias from the beginning. The basic idea of ​​Tuias is to create beautiful and durable ceramics for customers for everyday and festive use. The company operated in the garage of a detached house for several years, until the premises became too small. As a result of the search for new premises, a plot was found in Kytäjä where it was possible to build a proper ceramics workshop. A café was also built in connection with the workshop, which got its idea from the main product, the mug. The workshop and café were completed in 2019. The handmade ceramic mug has been in production throughout the years and is recognizable on the market as Tuias with its stylish large handle and thin pottery wheel. The café has been serving customers every summer since summer 2019. The basic idea is to offer good coffee from handmade mugs and home-baked pastries, in the rural landscapes of Kytäjä. Whenever the café is open, customers are also welcome to visit the ceramics shop and workshop. In the summer, we arrange café seating outside on the terrace, where an extension of the terrace and a canopy were built in spring 2021. In summer 2022, a glass wall protecting the terrace from the wind was also built.

Tuias also received the key flag symbol in the summer of 2018. The key flag on the product indicates that it is manufactured and employs in Finland.
